The Prizery is holding open auditions for its revived and reinvigorated Summerstock Theater Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the Chastain Theatre at The Prizery.
Actors and dancers aged 14 and older may audition for Summerstock Theater Festival roles, along with actors recruited later at the Southeast Theater Conference, which is taking place March 9-13 in Memphis, Tennessee. Youth Summer Camp shows are also available by registration for younger actors, and sign-ups for those camps are available at prizery.org/education.
The shows, “Footloose,” “A Chorus Line” and “The Mountaintop,” will run in rotation starting the weekend of July 7 for five weeks.
To encourage local participation, rehearsals will be held later in the day from noon to 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays. That will allow students and working professionals to participate. Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, May 31, after a May 30 BBQ and Company gathering party.
For the audition, actors are asked to have:
1 minute or 16 bars of an up-tempo contemporary song (bring sheet music if available).
1 minute of comedic monologue.
A headshot or recent picture (if available).
Executive Director Claude Giroux said he is enthusiastic about having local talent join the Company for the summer.
“All parts are open to the right person and none of the roles have been pre-cast,” Giroux said.
In addition to acting, Giroux said to contact him about several technical opportunities in lighting, sound, set construction, costumes and stage management.
“It’s a great way for those interested in pursuing theatre, or wanting to gain more experience, to learn and work alongside working professionals,” he said.
