One of the greatest pleasures for Prizery artistic director Christopher D. Jones each summer is getting to work with Ginny Bogart, the costume mistress for Summer Theatre.

“Bogart is one of the most frugal people that I know,” Jones said. “She has a knack for creating beautiful costumes on a dime. You can always count on Ginny to go the extra mile to save The Prizery money but never compromising the final look of the show.”

From last summer’s flashing stripper costumes in Gypsy to making double quantities of blue and white pinafores for the double cast of Von Trapp children in “Sound of Music,” Bogart is always up to the task, according to Jones.

For “Mamma Mia,” Bogart has a new challenge. Working with Riccardo Filograna in Milan, Italy, Bogart is having to sew multiple types of fabric together to create the look for the disco costumes that Filograna has designed.

“But I think Ginny’s favorite thing is creating a beautiful dress for one of our lead actresses,” Jones said.

In “Mary Poppins,” Abigail Young as Mrs. Banks is the recipient of one such dress.

From found material, Bogart has created a beautiful period satin gown that Abigail looks stunning in, he said.

“Please see all of Ginny’s handiwork in ‘Mary Poppins.’ Her work gets a standing ovation,” the artistic director added.
