Boyd Farms of Nathalie launches a new marketplace to provide fresh produce and eggs among his neighbors in northern Halifax County this month.
Avery and his father, Claude Boyd, are regularly found at the Halifax Farmers Market. But this growing season, they may also be found at a marketplace closer to home each third Saturday during 2GoodHEALTH4Life located at the New Zion Fellowship Hall Recreation Center, 7107 Chatham Road in Nathalie.
“We’re grateful for this opportunity to emphasize good food makes good health,” Avery Boyd said. “Our offerings will expand each month as green beans, tomatoes, squash, cabbage and various crops mature.”
“The presence of Boyd Farms and others is significant because this area is a longstanding food dessert where many must drive great distances to gain access to such fresh produce,” says Juanita Johnson, President of the Rose and Garden Club. “It becomes challenging to prepare healthy meals without fresh ingredients, especially among our elderly populations who are often physically unable to manage gardening tasks.”
Other activities scheduled for May 20 include Skills4Life youth workshops, flea market, microgreen gardening demonstration, health information, food vendors, outdoor concert performance, adult reader workshop, local history workshop and the semi-final round of the senior spelling bee.
