  • HALIFAX REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE MEETING: The Halifax Republican Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday Factory St. Brewing Company, 210 Factory St., South Boston.  


  • CLOVER TREE OF LIGHTS: Bulbs may be purchased in honor or in memory for $5 per name from any member of Clover UMC by Sunday.   • 5 STAND FUN SHOOT: The Halifax County Gun Club will host a 5 Stand Fun Shoot starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The event is open to all gauges. There will be 50 targets. The entry fee is $20 with $8 returned. All 410 shooters also will be entered in the 410 Challenge. Scores won’t be kept. Three names (by luck of the draw) will shoot-off for event prices and the 410 Challenge. Lunch of chicken chili is included. The shooting starts at 10:30 a.m. and the last squad should be out by 4 p.m. Anyone who shoots the 10 gauge will shoot for free.

  • WELLNESS CHECK-IN: A “Friends of Jordan Ross Wellness Check-in” will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the TJM Community Center basketball court from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be food, games and speakers discussing safe driving and the grief process. There will be counselors and pastors available for support. All are encouraged to wear Jordan memorial T-shirts, Comet or Jordan gear and come ready to play.   • THE HALIFAX COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS: The teachers will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Roma’s for their annual holiday meeting. Please bring a holiday item or two to be auctioned for the scholarship fund. 


  • HALIFAX COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY OPENS RESEARCH LIBRARY: The society’s research library is now open every Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Patrons may park behind the house located at 110 Mountain Road, Halifax, and enter from the back door or walk around to the front door.   • FOOD AND CLOTHING: The Good Samaritan, located at 1145 Tobacco Road, Nathalie, offers free food and clothing Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon. No appointment is necessary. Clients must show an ID and may visit The Good Samaritan once a month. Clothing is available in all sizes for men, women, children and infants. Shoes, belts and purses are available, as well. Included in the food giveaway are prepackaged bags of canned meats and vegetables, grains, fruits and powdered milk.
  • SOUTH BOSTON ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS MEETINGS: South Boston Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are all in-person. Monday night at 7 p.m. (AA literature/book study.) Masking and social distancing guidelines are honored.
