Person County Saddle Club — located at 3814 Edwin Robertson Road in Roxboro, North Carolina — will host a Draft Horse Pull and the Miniature Horse Pulling Exhibition starting at 2 p.m. April 29.
Teams from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Maryland are expected to attend.
Draft teams of two horses have been known to pull more than 10,000 pounds. There will be heavy and light weight teams.
On heavy teams, the two horses together weigh 3,401 or more pounds. Light teams are 3,400 pounds and under.
Teams are worked and exercised five or six days weekly to keep them in top condition to handle the heavy loads.
Mostly Belgian horses are used, but Percheron, Suffolk Punch and a very few Cyclesdale breeds are also used in the sport.
Admission is $10. Children 12 and under get in free.
Concessions and restrooms will be available and coolers will not be allowed.
Sponsorship opportunities are available starting at $100. Other levels of sponsorship are available.
