The Halifax County Cancer Association and Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival group members and others are working together to spread a little Christmas joy this holiday season with a Drive-thru Christmas Lights Display at the Halifax County Fairgrounds, and need the public’s help in doing so.
The organizing groups are asking for help from local clubs, civic organizations, churches, businesses, individuals and others to help light up the fairgrounds with floats, static exhibits, light shows and other creative festive light displays.
Help also is needed in decorating and stringing lights at the fairgrounds to create this festive event.
The event is scheduled for two consecutive weekends in December: Friday, Dec.11 and Saturday, Dec. 12; and Friday, Dec. 18 and Saturday, Dec. 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
The community and all surrounding area communities are invited to come out and enjoy driving through the festive lights display while remaining inside the comfort and safety of their own vehicles.
A $5 per vehicle donation, or whatever amount can be afforded, will be appreciated.
All proceeds will benefit the Halifax County Cancer Association and will be used to assist Halifax County cancer patients.
If anyone is interested in helping, call 434-349-3349 or 434-572-6879, or text 434-579-7340 or 434-579-4017.
Decorating is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Dec. 1.
2020 has been a very difficult and disappointing year for everyone. The effects of COVID-19 have not only been felt worldwide and throughout the nation, but in our local community as well.
The Halifax County Cancer Association also has felt the effects since a number of its fundraising activities have been cancelled or scaled down due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“Let’s come together as a community to make the first Halifax County Drive-thru Christmas Lights Display a beautiful sight to behold and help the Halifax County Cancer Association continue to assist local cancer patients. Your help will be greatly appreciated,” organizers said.
