There’s been one mark of the coronavirus pandemic that everyone seems to be familiar with — the toilet paper shortage of 2020.
As the global pandemic grew, Charmin, Quilted Northern, Scott tissue and other brands cleared the shelves of local grocery stores.
To give the public that necessary item while helping a good cause, members of HYPE, or Halifax Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs, are teaming with the local YMCA for a toilet paper fundraiser drive-thru to be held on Saturday.
It will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the YMCA parking lot on Hamilton Boulevard in South Boston.
HYPE will be selling a four-pack of toilet paper for $5, or individuals can save $1 by purchasing two packs.
Only cash and checks will be accepted.
Organizers remind attendees to stay in their car during pick up for their safety.
All proceeds will benefit the YMCA food assistance program.
The YMCA in South Boston has partnered with Halifax County Public Schools to become a food collection site and delivery service for local families.
If anyone is need of food, Kristen Zerbato, executive director of the South Boston Halifax County YMCA, and her team of volunteers are asking those to text or call 434-228-0011 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Individuals also can donate food to the Y Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Examples of items that can be donated include pop top canned foods, granola bars, small juices, oatmeal packets, cups of mac and cheese, fruit cups, nabs, peanut butter, crackers, pop tarts, canned vegetables and pull tab ravioli/pork and beans.
