A great line up of local musicians is scheduled to perform at the 16th Annual Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival.

Performers taking center stage Saturday include Halifax County Middle Schooler Cameron Crews who has been playing piano for six years. Crews will be performing from 11 to 11:15 a.m.

Singer and songwriter Nelly Zamora Jones loves to share her personal experiences with the audience through her original songs and unique music rich in styles of Latin, blues and rock rhythms.

Zamora will perform from 11:15 a.m. to noon.

Russell and Sarah Cook lead opening ceremonies with the National Anthem at noon followed by an hour-long performance of great gospel music from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Russell and Sarah have been married and singing together for 10 years, performing at weddings, funerals, revivals, events and fundraisers. 

Kyle Martin and the Halifax Hillbillies are all set to get the crowd going with some toe-tapping bluegrass from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. followed by Kermit Wright and Dennis Rice with a tribute to the late and great Jimmie Glass from 2:45 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Wright is a native of Halifax County and is from a family of entertainers. He plays for fire department marathons, rescue squads, American Legions, churches, VFW Posts, radio, TV and fundraisers for the needy.

The Forever Young Band rounds out the day’s entertainment with southern rock from 3:15 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The Halifax County Heritage Festival begins Friday at the Halifax County Fairgrounds. Festival times are Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Admission is $7 per day for adults and children 12 years old and older. Children under 12 will be admitted free of charge. $10 two-day tickets will be available for purchase Friday.

Race fans who attend the Heritage Festival can save $5 off general admission tickets to the K & N Touring Series race Saturday at the South Boston Speedway by presenting a wristband from the Heritage Festival. Wristbands must be surrendered at ticket booth.
