Three local organizations, the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline, the Halifax County-South Boston Public Library System and Main Street United Methodist Church, recently received funding from the Fund for Halifax County of the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region.

This was part of its tenth round of grant awards.

Members of the Community Foundation’s Halifax County Advisory Committee made the grant decisions.

The committee is composed of five Halifax County residents who wish to see the county’s non-profit sector continue to thrive.

After reviewing the applications received, the following grants were awarded:

• Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline ($1,000) to support membership and the Girl Scout “Badge in a Box” program for girls in grades K-12 residing in Halifax County;

• Halifax County-South Boston Public Library ($1,000) to purchase items in support of the “Library of Things”; and

• Main Street United Methodist Church ($1,000) to support the Jane Jones Food Pantry in purchasing food at the Central Virginia Feeding America Food Bank and local grocery stores for monthly distribution of supplemental nutritional food items.

The Fund for Halifax County provides a vehicle for citizens, organizations and businesses to contribute to an endowment, established for the purpose of improving and enriching lives in Halifax County.

The Community Foundation’s vision is to grow this fund, enabling more grants to be given in the future.
