Chevelles, Cobalts, Buicks and more cruised into the Halifax County High School parking lot to support VFW Post 8243 as part of the Rats and Rods Car Show on Saturday evening. Proceeds from the event will go toward repairing the Post building that was damaged in a shooting on April 22, 2013. At the start of the event, the Halifax County High School JROTC presented colors followed by a five-rifle salute presented by the honor guard with the American Legion. As car, truck and bike honors shined up their rides, guests browsed through the vehicle lineup, enjoyed music provided by the Forever Young Band and shopped vendors who had set up in the school lot. Children jumped in bounce houses, enjoyed snow cones from Troy Nation and were given free balloons. Rolling Smoke provided pulled pork, ribs and chicken. Awards, raffles and door prizes also were presented.
