The Prizery announces that Ladies of Laughter-The Funny and Fabulous Tour will make a stop in South Boston on Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m.
What started out in the 90s as an annual videotape comedy competition in New York has steadily become the career builder for women in comedy.
The Funny and Fabulous Tour includes the winners and talent from the national competition. Since the inaugural year when the contest went “live,” The Ladies of Laughter contest has visited legendary venues including Caesars and Madison Square Garden.
Past participants include Amy Schumer, Tammy Pescatelli and “Big Bang Theory” star Melissa Rauch, among countless others. The performance at The Prizery will include the comedy of Leighann Lord and Jane Clondon. Some local talent may possibly join the performance.
On Saturday, May 13, The Prizery will hold a Spring Soiree fundraiser at 6 p.m. Participants may join the bidding frenzy as they enjoy an evening with friends and bid on vacation packages, winery tours with limo transport and a four-course dinner for 10 and more. It also will feature silent and live auction items.
The Prizery’s Dance and Dine Series is back on Friday, June 16 at 7 p.m. with the music of high-energy swing band, Good Shot Judy. Brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon stepped away from the success they’d achieved with their punk band Ten Years from Now and chose instead to see what they could do with the old-time jazz standards they’d admired for so long.
The brothers Cahoon formed a small combo, and plenty of others felt the same groove. A Good Shot Judy show offers all those tunes known just from growing up in America — songs attendees can at least hum along to, if they don’t outright know most of the words. But the music itself is only part of the band’s allure; there’s something electric in the execution, and it’s that vigor that carries the day as much as the pull of recognition. Good Shot Judy is as close as it comes to an intersection between an era’s defining sound and the pleasure of enjoying it the way it was meant to be heard.
On Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m., The Prizery will feature Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience. As the longest running Michael Jackson Tribute Band, this power-packed performance of the King of Pop’s expansive catalog has ignited crowds on every continent, and can only be described as a jaw-dropping musical must see.
Tickets for all shows are available online at www.prizery.org, by calling 434-572-8339 or by stopping by The Prizery, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Final ticket price will include a $1 per ticket historical preservation fee, and orders paid by credit card have a $3 per order service charge.
