Farm Market Fresh For Seniors is a program made available by Lake Country Area Agency on Aging, Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in which eligible seniors may apply to receive $40 worth of checks that can be used to purchase locally-grown fresh fruits, vegetables and cut herbs.
Halifax County has been invited to participate in this program which helps Virginia fruit and vegetable growers and at the same time provides area senior citizens with fresh local fruits and vegetables. Eligible residents may redeem their checks at several approved Farmer’s Markets in Halifax County and in Danville.
You may qualify to participate if:
• You are 60 years of age or older on or before July 1, 2019
• You are a Halifax County resident and
• You do not live with and are not an immediate family member of the farmer who grows the produce and
• You must meet income guidelines which are set at or below 150% of the federal poverty level.
Checks will be distributed on Wednesday, Thursday and if needed Friday, July 10,11,12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 99. The doors will not be open until 10 a.m. No early arrivals. After that date, individuals should contact Lake Country Area Agency on Aging’s satellite office located at 5037 Halifax Road, Halifax or telephone 434-575-1500 for more information. Applicants must self declare household income when applying.
