The Halifax County NAACP will conduct its annual observance of Jubilee Day at 11 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Banister Hill Baptist Church in Halifax.
Pastor of the church is the Rev. Dr. William F. Carr. The guest speaker for the event will be Minister Ke’Aunte Clements from Bennett Memorial Baptist Church, Danville. Music will be rendered by the angels and junior choirs from Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church, South Boston. Minister Carmina Eder will be the Mistress of Ceremonies.
Because the Emancipation Proclamation precipitated the end of slavery in the U.S., Jubilee Day is considered African Americans’ Independence Day. However, everyone is invited to the jubilee day celebration. Parents are urged to bring their children to experience this enriching and uplifting educational program.
The annual Cora Lee Tucker’s community service award will be presented as well.
President is Sister Barbara C. Brown.
