The Virginia Cooperative Extension and Healthy Harvest Community Garden are partnering to offer a six-session (eight-lesson) family nutrition class starting at 9:30 a.m. July 13.
Parents are encouraged to attend this adult class, and bring their children grades six-12 to attend the Teen Cuisine.
These classes will continue every Wednesday through Aug. 17.
Classes will be held at the Healthy Harvest Community Garden’s new location (445 S. Main St. in Halifax across from Abbott’s Farm Supplies) and will contain education on healthy eating and staying active as we age.
The family nutrition classes will include a food demo and tasting, with fresh produce on site from the Healthy Harvest Community Garden.
Upon completion of the six-session series, participants will receive a certificate, free cookbook, complimentary reinforcements to include a cutting board set, insulated lunch bag, water bottle and grocery list pad.
Additionally, educational handouts recipes, and lesson materials will be provided for participants during each class.

Also, Master Gardeners Linda Logan and William (Bill) McCaleb will be conducting a “Good Bug/Bad Bug” free insect identification class on Wednesday. This class will be held at the Healthy Harvest Community Garden. Training will begin at 8 a.m. and will last approximately two hours.
This class will provide helpful education in recognizing insects, their damage and how to handle the “bad insects.”
Upon completion of this class, participants will better understand the difference between insect damage from other pathogen damage and what to look for.
To register, call McCaleb at 434-830-3384, by noon on Tuesday.
