The Fry, Jordan and Wilson/Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation Veteran of the Month for June is Dickie Fallen.

Fallen was drafted into the U.S. Army in September 1966. He was deployed to Vietnam from March 1967 to March 1968. He was a Specialist 4th Class and assigned with the combat engineers. Their responsibilities were to repair and rebuild airstrips after enemy attacks.

He spent the first nine months of his deployment living in a two-man pup tent moving from one location to another.

Upon his return to the U.S., he married his wife, Helen. Fallen and Helen both believe it was Helen’s prayers that brought him home safely, so they could be married.

Fallen worked for Tultex for 31 years, he owned and operated Millstone store for five years and later retired from Annin.

He and his wife were blessed with two daughters, the late Kim Bosiger and Karen Crews. They have four grandchildren.
