The Halifax County-South Boston Public Library system is hosting a writing contest for middle school and high school students.

Students can submit an original essay or story about what the holidays mean to him or her.

The maximum length is two full pages.

Entrees can be turned in at either the Halifax Public Library or the South Boston Public Library.

Entrants should include his or her name, phone number and grade level with his or her entry.

The deadline for entries is Jan. 5, which is traditionally known as Twelft Night.

Winners will be announced on Jan. 10. There will be one middle school winner and one high school winner.

The two winners will each receive a $25 Visa gift card.
