A local Mary Kay Unit has worked to fund and send over 300 tubes of Mary Kay sunscreen to the Middle East and South-Central Asia.
Throughout the United States, “Operation Sunscreen” has paired Mary Kay consultants and their American Cancer Society recommended products with Soldier’s Angels, a San Antonio, Texas-based nonprofit that supports deployed soldiers, veterans, wounded service members, military families and more with successful programs and donation-run campaigns.
“We wanted to raise funds quickly, make it easy to give and affordable for people who loved the idea, so we stuck to just sunscreen,” said Kathy McDonald, independent sales director. “We asked for $11 donations for each sunscreen to cover the wholesale cost and most of the tax. The remaining taxes and shipping we covered ourselves. All of this was achieved in little over two months by just four consultants — Ann Stanger, Amy Fears and Kathy McDonald of Halifax and Melanie McDonald of San Diego, California.”
These consultants expressed thanks to the members of the community who supported this effort.
“We just did the footwork. You did the giving,” McDonald said.
