Southern Virginia Daylily Society holds summer picnic

The Southern Virginia Daylily Society held its annual summer picnic on Saturday at Bloomburg, the Turbeville home of Andrea and Ed McKinney. Members from across Southern Virginia enjoyed the panoramas of the farm and the lavender and daylily gardens of the McKinneys. The McKinneys have collected more than 200 daylily varieties of all colors, sizes and shapes. The Southern Virginia Daylily Society is an affiliate of the National Hemerocallis Society and is open to membership from across the region. Attendees came from Chesterfield, Brunswick, Nottoway, Charlotte, Mecklenburg and Halifax counties. The club meets six times a year and sponsors talks by national leaders in the daylily world. Members also grow and test new introductions for distribution among their membership. Interested parties can get more information from the website https://www.facebook.com/SVDCRegion3/.
