Scholarship money is available to all future and current students of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center.

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation (SVHEF) invites students to apply for scholarships for all programs taught at the SVHEC in South Boston. Whether a student plans to enroll in one of the SVHEC’s hands-on workforce training programs (IT Academy, welding, mechatronics or HVAC), or take classes from one of the center’s college or university partners (DCC, SVCC, ODU and Longwood), the SVHEF has numerous scholarships that can help make educational dreams a reality.

The SVHEF is accepting scholarship applications now. To apply, a student must enroll in a program at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center. Once enrollment is approved, application for a scholarship with the SVHEF can be made online at, or paper applications can be picked up at the SVHEC, [820 Bruce Street] or in the offices of the SVHEF [180 Factory St].

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation exists to empower individuals to reach their full potential, through the Awareness of and Accessibility to Affordable Education.

Since 2003, the SVHEF has awarded numerous scholarships to students attending classes at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) or completing a program through one of the SVHEC’s educational partners, i.e., Longwood University, Danville Community College, Old Dominion University, Southside Virginia Community College, etc.

Donations to the SVHEF Annual Scholarship Fund allow the foundation to award deserving students with much needed funding to further their higher education at the SVHEC.

To make a donation or to set up a scholarship in someone’s name, contact the SVHEF executive director, Katrina Powell, via email at or by phone at 434-572-5592.
