Dominic Coles Powell, 25, of Nathalie was convicted Thursday of a felony charge for possession of cocaine and a charge for a violation of his provisions of good behavior as ordered by the court.

Powell was arrested June 20 and charged with possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance, and the drug was later analyzed and found to be cocaine, according to court records.

Judge Kimberley S. White continued sentencing for Powell to a date in the December court term.

Other court cases

• Byron Scott Moore Jr., 30, of Scottsburg pleaded guilty Thursday to one felony charge for possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor charges for possession of a controlled substance.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge for failing to appear in court.

Pursuant to a plea agreement with the commonwealth, White sentenced Moore to a five-year suspended prison term for the felonya, a pair of 12-month suspended jail terms for the misdemeanor drug charges and a 10-day jail term for failing to appear in court.

White ordered the suspended portion of Moore’s sentence be conditioned on the defendant’s good behavior for 10 years and ordered him to be placed on probation for two years upon his release, in addition to ordering him to pay court costs within two years and ordering his operator’s license to be suspended for 18 months.

• Demetrius Lamonte Womack, 25, of Halifax pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony charge for child neglect, after reaching a plea agreement with the commonwealth.

White continued sentencing in the case to a date in the December court term.

• Dick Melvin Walker Jr., 50, of Halifax had 30 days of his previously suspended jail term revoked on Thursday for a violation of his provisions of good behavior as ordered by the court.

White ordered the re-suspended portions of Walker’s jail term be conditioned on his good behavior for five years and ordered him to pay court costs in full within two years.
