The Virginia General Assembly last week elected two new judges for Halifax County.
Robert Morrison, currently a judge for the Halifax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, was elected a circuit court judge for the 10th Judicial Circuit.
Brendan U. Dunning, a Halifax attorney, was named as juvenile and domestic relations district court judge for the 10th Judicial District.
The 10th Judicial Circuit includes the counties of Halifax, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg and Prince Edward.
The moves come after Kimberley Slayton White, the previous presiding circuit court judge for the 10th Judicial District, was selected by the Virginia General Assembly to serve on the Virginia Court of Appeals.
White began serving the commonwealth in her new role on July 1, as one of 17 judges on Virginia’s second-highest court. She filled the spot left open by Wesley G. Russell Jr., who was elevated to the state’s Supreme Court.
Morrison and Dunning will assume their new roles Oct. 1. Morrison’s term is for eight years and Dunning’s term is for six.
Dunning, of The Law Office of Brendan U. Dunning, has been practicing law in Halifax for more than 13 years, his website states.
