Attorneys have been appointed, but a preliminary hearing that had been set Tuesday for Kory Lenorad Lennon and Tonja Lashay Sydnor, who are each charged with second degree murder in the May 27 death of 5-year-old Christian Sydnor, has been continued to Tuesday, Aug. 6.
According to an employee of the Halifax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, the hearing will be held at 9 a.m. in that court with Charles Cosby Jr. of Richmond representing Lennon and Michael Jones of Keysville representing Sydnor.
Authorities were summoned to a home on Old Cluster Springs Road at about 6 p.m. May 27 for an unresponsive 5-year-old, the sheriff’s office said.
Sydnor and Lennon were charged after an autopsy showed the child died of blunt force trauma to the head, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Sydnor, 31, the mother of Christian Sydnor, and 22-year-old Lennon are being held in Blue Ridge Regional Jail with no bond.
On May 29, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sam Edmonds charged both Sydnor of 2031 Old Cluster Springs Road and Lennon of 1120 State Shed Road in Nathalie with the second-degree murder of Christian Sydnor, and Edmonds also charged Lennon with one count of felony child abuse in connection with Christian Sydnor’s death, according to Halifax Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court warrants.
Investigator Jeff Burton also charged Sydnor with felony child neglect.
