A 60-year-old Virgilina man, Ricky Dean Elliott, was indicted Thursday by a Halifax County Circuit Court Grand Jury for one count of malicious wounding.

The grand jury indicted Elliott for one count of the malicious wounding of David Weadon, with the alleged offense occurring on Feb. 2, according to court records.

Elliott was arrested and charged with the offense that same day, according to Halifax County Sheriff’s Office records.

An indictment is issued by a grand jury against an individual who is charged with a crime. Before the individual may be convicted, the charge must be proved at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.
