Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies have been searching since Friday morning for 51-year-old James Kevin Hobbs, who is wanted on multiple charges including attempted second degree murder.

According to authorities with South Boston police, a woman called 911 early Friday morning to report an assault and said the suspect fired a gun at her.

Cpl. A. Whitmore with South Boston Police said there was evidence of an assault when police met with the woman.

Hours following the 911 call, local police received a call saying Hobbs had been spotted around Lincoln Drive in the Westside area.

South Boston police officers, Virginia State Police troopers, deputies with Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and authorities with the Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force spent hours searching the Sinai area with K-9 units Friday.

The South Boston Police Department has issued warrants for Hobbs on charges of attempted second-degree murder, interfering with a 9-1-1 call, reckless handling of a firearm, assault and battery of a family member, petit larceny, possession of firearm as a convicted felon and use or display of a firearm while committing a felony.
