The 34-year-old victim of an early Thursday morning shooting at Westside Trailer Park, James Burden Jr. of South Boston, has been released from the hospital and is at home recovering, South Boston police Lt. Tiffaney Bratton said Tuesday.

Burden was found by police inside a trailer at Westside Trailer Park with multiple gunshot wounds after Halifax County 911 received a report of a shooting on Bane Street at 2 a.m. Burden was transported to Duke University Hospital for treatment.

No charges have been filed as of press time Tuesday, but Bratton said police do have suspects in the shooting. Police believe the shooter knew the victim.

“We think the shooting stemmed from an assault a couple of hours prior,” Bratton added.

The area around the shooting was searched and several items of evidence were collected from the scene including multiple cartridges.

Detective W. Kent Bane is leading the investigation for the South Boston Police Department.
