An apartment window and two cars at Country Green Apartments on East Bishop Drive in the Sinai community of South Boston were damaged by gunfire, according to a news release issued Monday afternoon by the South Boston Police Department.
A call came into the Halifax County E911 center shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday from a resident at Country Green Apartments. Officer S. Kenney of the South Boston Police Department responded to the scene and found damage to the apartment’s kitchen window that was consistent with gunfire, the news release states.
Police initially reported that the resident did not report hearing gunshots, but said further investigation revealed that approximately 10 shots had been heard prior to the officer’s arrival.
Officers on the scene also found damage consistent with gunfire to a 2003 Lincoln in the parking lot of the apartment complex, according to the news release. Later that morning, the owner of a 2005 Chevrolet that was parked in the area reported damage consistent with gunfire.
Currently, there are no suspects in the crime of firing the shots that resulted in an estiamted $500 in damage to the kitchen window of the apartment, an estimated $500 in damages to the Chevy and an estimated $2,000 in damages to the Lincoln.
Officers collected numerous pieces of evidence from the scene, including cartridge cases that will be sent to the Department of Forensics in Richmond for analysis.
This case is still under investigation.
