A vehicle that was reported stolen in the town of South Boston is now in police custody after a Halifax Police Officer found it early Monday morning, according to Halifax Police Chief Stuart Comer.

Comer said Officer D. Martin found a 2004 Ford Sport Track parked on Harding Street in Halifax during a routine patrol around 4 a.m.

“He felt the vehicle seemed out of place, and ran the tags,” said Comer.

The tag did not register in the system, and Comer said Martin then ran the vin number, which let him know the vehicle had been reported stolen with the South Boston Police Department.

The Halifax Police Chief said the vehicle was reported stolen on June 28. He said the vehicle had been parked on Wilborn Avenue with a for sale sign in the window.

After determining it was a stolen vehicle, Comer said South Boston Police Officers were then contacted, and the vehicle was towed where investigators processed it.
