The suspect in last Friday’s shooting has turned himself in.

Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark reported Wednesday afternoon that authorities had arrested 48-year-old Jeffrey Franklin Davis of Bold Springs Road for his alleged involvement in the shooting and killing of James “Jim Bob” Wilson that occurred at a residence on Harmony Road.

Davis faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Sheriff Clark said Davis turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday without incident. He is currently being held without bail at Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax.

Corporal C. J. Yeatts served the warrant.

Davis had been wanted by police since April 2 when they responded to Harmony Road after a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a shooting.

Upon arrival, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a man lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound, said Clark.

“There was an argument between parties, which led to an altercation,” said Clark.

Cluster Springs Fire and Rescue and Halifax County Rescue Squad personnel provided aide to Wilson, however he succumbed to his injuries.

Wilson’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke.

Clark also said Thursday that they still did not know the caliber of weapon used as no gun has been found at this point.

The sheriff said the investigation is still active and if anyone has any information about this incident call Investigator T. A. Mocarsky at (434) 476-3339 or the Halifax County Crime Line at (434) 476-8445.
