A 42-year-old Halifax woman, Danean Stokes, faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter stemming from Sunday’s shooting that left a man dead, according to Sheriff Fred S. Clark.
She was taken into custody Wednesday without incident, said Clark, and transported to Blue Ridge Regional Jail where she was placed under a $7,500 secured bond.
Stokes is accused of shooting and killing 45-year-old Tyree Jermaine Bailey of Virginia Beach, formerly of Halifax County.
At about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the 911 center received a call about someone being shot, according to Clark.
Authorities from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Halifax Police Department and Virginia State Police responded to the incident on Union Church Road, a Monday afternoon news release stated.
Officers found Bailey dead of a “suspected gunshot wound,” Clark reported.
The sheriff said the investigation shows the people involved knew each other, and this is considered an isolated incident.
He said no further information is available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
