A man is dead after a Sunday evening shooting on Union Church Road in Halifax, authorities reported.

At about 7:30 p.m., the 911 center received a call about someone being shot, according to Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark.

Authorities from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Halifax Police Department and Virginia State Police responded to the incident on Union Church Road, a Monday afternoon news release stated. An exact address where the shooting happened wasn’t provided.

Officers found a man dead of a “suspected gunshot wound,” Clark reported.

Clark said the investigation shows the people involved knew each other, and this is considered an isolated incident.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.

No further details were immediately revealed. The body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.
