Police are searching for a 26-year-old Danville man, Dashay Harris, who was spotted in Halifax County on Friday during a traffic stop.

At 12:34 p.m. on Friday, Virginia State Trooper J. A. Williamson stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on U.S. Route 58 near Hackberry Road in Halifax County, according to Corinne Geller, public relations director with Virginia State Police.

During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper was able to confirm that the passenger was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.

“While trying to take the man into custody, he was able to break away from the trooper and fled the scene on foot into the woods,” she wrote in an email press release.

State Police immediately set up a perimeter and with the assistance of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and Danville Police conducted an extensive search effort on the ground and by air.

The search was discontinued at approximately 4 p.m., as stated in the press release.

Harris has six outstanding warrants including two for assault and battery and one each for burglary, credit card forgery and failure to appear.

Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Harris is encouraged to call 911.
