A call for a domestic disturbance Saturday morning on Crescent Drive led to authorities with the South Boston Police Department to discover items believed to be used in the production of methamphetamine, according to patrol Lt. Randy Redd.

The South Boston Police Department is seeking the whereabouts of 48-year-old Willie Edward Howell Jr. who has two outstanding warrants for the production and possession of meth, Redd said Tuesday afternoon.

According to Redd, officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Crescent Drive at about 4 a.m. Saturday for a call about a domestic disturbance. Arriving officers found a 47-year-old woman suffering from a wound to her head.

Officer W. K. Bane charged Howell with assault and battery of a family member and also obtained a protective order against Howell.

While officers were investigating the domestic disturbance, items were discovered that appeared to be used in the production of methamphetamine, said Redd.

As a precaution, the South Boston Fire Department responded, along with members of the Virginia State Police Clandestine Lab Team, who secured the items.

Members of the Halifax South Boston Regional Narcotics and Gang Task Force also assisted officers.

Anyone having information regarding the whereabouts of Howell is asked to call the South Boston Police Department at 434-575-4273 or the Halifax County Crime Line at 434-476-8445.
