A 52-year-old South Boston man faces a charge of possession of a Schedule I/II narcotic following a traffic stop in Halifax on Saturday, according to Stuart Comer, chief of Halifax Police Department.

Comer said Sgt. J. Florence made a traffic stop on the vehicle, because it did not have any visible license plate.

During the stop, Comer said the passenger, Kevin Medley, became argumentative saying they only had beer and liquor in the vehicle and that it was all unopened.

Florence then asked the passenger to step out of the vehicle and was told Medley had a “box razor” in his pocket.

Medley was told not to reach into his pocket, but he continued to do so.

Comer said Florence then detained Medley for his safety and removed the cutter out of his pocket.

He also found a smoking pipe on Medley, according to Comer.

Upon further search, Comer said Florence then found three rock-like substances that appeared to be crack cocaine in the brim of Medley’s hat.

The substance tested positive for crack cocaine during a field test at the scene, according to the police chief.

He also said it has been sent to Richmond for further testing.

Medley was taken to Blue Ridge Regional Jail where he was held on a $2,500 bond.

He was released on Sunday.
