A 41-year-old South Boston man, Mark William Womack of Carrington Street, was arrested on numerous charges following a pursuit Thursday morning, according to Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark.

Womack faces charges of reckless driving, driving while suspended or revoked, felony eluding and felony obstruction of justice and assault on a law enforcement office, said Clark.

The Halifax/South Boston Regional Narcotic Gang and Task Force arrested him after a short vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot pursuit.

The vehicle he was operating became disabled down a private driveway off of Oak Level Road in Halifax said Clark, and Womack then fled on foot.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office tracking K9 was called to the scene, and the sheriff said members of the task force, the sheriff’s tracking K9 and handler were able to local Womack in a wooded area near the vehicle.

After a foot pursuit, Womack was taken into custody.

He was arrested and transported to Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Halifax where Womack was held without bail.

Members of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police assisted with the incident.
