A 38-year-old Halifax woman faces three felony charges after the grand jury indicted her in Halifax County Circuit Court on Aug. 6.

The grand jury handed down three direct indictments for Catherine Chaney Wright for a felony charge of distributing a controlled schedule III substance, a felony charge of conspiracy to commit any offense in violation of the Drug Control Act and a felony charge of child abuse.

According to the indictment, the offenses occurred on or about July 5, 2019, through July 12, 2019.

Deputy A. C. Dunn served the warrants on Aug. 17.

Wright was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, according to documents filed in Halifax County Circuit Court.

According to court documents, Wright is being represented by Joseph A. Sanzone of Sanzone & Baker, P.C. of Lynchburg.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Virginia State Police, who did not immediately return requests for information.
