Authorities are investigating a late Friday night shooting that injured three people, South Boston police report.

Officers were on patrol at about 10:15 p.m. Friday in the Poplar Creek area when they heard gunfire ring out from the Glendale Drive area of South Boston, according to a news release from the police department.

The 911 dispatch center fielded numerous calls about a shooting in the 100 block of Glendale Drive, and callers advised a woman was shot.

Officers from South Boston, joined by deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a home in the 100 block of Glendale Drive. When they arrived, authorities found a 20-year-old Danville woman with what they described as “an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.” The Halifax County Rescue Squad transported her to Halifax Sentara Regional Hospital. She was treated and released, according to the police report.

While investigating the shooting, officers learned two other people were at the hospital’s emergency department being treated for gunshot wounds.

Police found a 22-year-old South Boston man who sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was airlifted to the VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment. Police did not release his condition in the Sunday morning news release.

Officers also discovered a 24-year-old South Boston man was shot in the hand and leg. He was treated and released, police reported.

On Saturday morning, detective C. L. Carswell of the South Boston Police Department served a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Glendale Drive in reference to Friday night’s shooting. Police did not disclose the exact address.

Authorities said numerous items were collected and will be sent Department of Forensic Science in Richmond for analysis. The news release did not disclose details of those items.
