The South Boston Police Department is investigating two early Saturday morning shootings that left two people injured, but officials don’t believe they are connected.
The first incident happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. when officers were called to the 1200 block of Ash Avenue for a report of “multiple gunshots being fired at a residence,” South Boston Police Chief Bryan Young wrote in a news release.
A 25-year-old South Boston man was hit by a bullet and airlifted to an unidentified hospital for treatment.
Also, about 20 pistol cartridge casings were found in the roadway and a home had multiple bullet holes.
“Officers interviewed the residents of the house and collected multiple pieces of evidence from the scene,” Young said.
About two hours later at 2:30 a.m., police responded to the 1600 block of Jeffress Boulevard after receiving a report that someone had been shot.
Arriving officers found a 35-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the right shoulder.
“The female indicated she was a passenger in a vehicle when she was shot in the shoulder from a nearby vehicle,” Young said. “The shooting appears to have stemmed from a verbal altercation at a local convenience store.”
The woman was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
“At this time police have no reason to believe these incidents are related,” Young said. “The South Boston Police Department would like to thank the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with these incidents.”
These investigations are ongoing. Investigators Cameron Collie and Justin Long are leading these investigations for the South Boston Police Department.
