The TRIO Southern Piedmont Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) and the Halifax County High Guidance Department are sponsoring a College Awareness Night Informational Session at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Halifax County High School auditorium.
This free session is open to high school seniors who want to attend any 2-year or 4-year college/university in the fall 2020 term along with their family members.
EOC Education Specialists will present techniques on how to apply to college, information on standardized testing requirements, along with tips on writing admission essays and requesting letters of recommendations.
In addition, advice will be given on how to financially pay for college, and the HCHS guidance department will offer important updates.
The TRIO EOC program has over 16 years of experience assisting the citizens of Halifax, Henry, Patrick, Pittsylvania and Franklin counties and the cities of Danville and Martinsville with college access services such as admission and financial aid assistance, career and college selection and scholarship search.
Sharon Harris, EOC project director, said, “Seniors in our region just returned back to school and we know that planning for fall 2020 is not a priority. The TRIO EOC program desires to change their mindset by explaining why it is advantageous to begin the college application process now.”
