Halifax County Middle School sixth grade student JadeLynn Hediger is the winner of the Crossing of the Dan Essay Contest sponsored by Berryman Green Chapter, Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution, Dan River Chapter, Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution and Halifax County Historical Society. Honorable Mention recognition is awarded to K’dyn Maree Lucas and Abagail Conner. All three of these students are in Angelina Wiley’s classroom. Tracy Elliott is the lead sixth grade U.S. History teacher who facilitates the essay contest in collaboration with the annual Commemoration of the Crossing of the Dan. These students will be recognized during the program on Saturday, Feb. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. in the banquet hall at The Prizery. Crossing of the Dan essay contest winners are presented shirts and caps by Halifax County Historical Society president Barbara Bass and committee members Mike Geisinger and Douglas Powell, Dan River Chapter Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution.
