Halifax County Middle School head principal Magie Wilkerson has resigned.

Halifax County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Lineburg announced her resignation Thursday morning adding Wilkerson has accepted a principal position at Bluestone High School in Mecklenburg County.

“It has been my absolute pleasure to serve Halifax County and Halifax County Middle School. I could not be prouder of the school and the amazing faculty and staff that make it such a special place. HCMS will always hold a special place in my heart,” Wilkerson said on Thursday.

She has worked at the county middle school for 14 years serving the last three years as principal.

Accepting the Bluestone principal position came after much consideration and reflection, said Wilkerson.

As a graduate of the school, she said she is “excited to lead BHS as the culture, climate and success are important to me.”

“We hate to see her go, but we understand she has professional opportunities she would like to pursue,” said Lineburg, noting Wilkerson has aspirations to be a school superintendent.

“I think having varying experiences is important to her. She’s an outstanding educator, and we’re proud of the work she has done at the middle school. We are proud of where the middle school is and are confident it will continue to thrive,” Lineburg concluded.

Her replacement has not been hired at this time.
