All contracted employees, who include all categories of employees except substitute teachers, are set to receive hazard pay of $650.

Even though divided on the matter, Halifax County School Board made the decision when they met Monday evening at the conclusion of their meeting.

It was approved at a five to three roll call vote with ED-2 Roy Keith Lloyd, Chairman and ED-6 trustee Todd Moser and ED-7 trustee Keith McDowell voting no.

The board also approved a personnel report by a six to two vote with ED-5 trustee Freddie Edmunds and ED-8 trustee Walter Potts voting no.

The personnel report included the following:

  • Appointment of Meghan Weatherford as a South Boston Elementary teacher with a salary of $41,386;
  • Appointment of Shawn Hudson as a lead SPED teacher at South Boston Elementary with no change in salary;
  • Appointment of Tammy Conner as the elementary library media specialist with no change in salary;
  • Resignation of South Boston Elementary fifth grade teacher Ginger Davis effective Dec. 2;
  • Appointment of Melissa Moore as SPED paraprofessional at Meadville Elementary with a salary of $20,638; and
  • Resignation of South Boston Elementary SPED paraprofessional Melinda Hansen effective Dec. 7.
  • An athletic report also was included in the personnel report with the board noting that supplements will be suspended until activities resume.

The athletic report included the following:

  • Resignation of Halifax County Middle School head football coach LeVar Medley effective Nov. 18;
  • Appointment of Lynzie Adams as the head volleyball coach with a supplement of $2,500;
  • Appointment of Savanna Cabaniss as the assistant volleyball coach with a supplement of $2,500;
  • Resignation of Halifax County High School assistant football coach Darius Jennings effective Nov. 9;
  • Appointment of Medley as the Halifax County High School assistant football coach with a supplement of $3,300;
  • Appointment of John L. Cole IV as the assistant football coach and offensive coordinator with a supplement of $3,800;
  • Appointment of Michelle Palmore Shealy as the cross country coach with a supplement of $3,300;
  • Appointment of Shealy as the National Junior Honor Society sponsor with a supplement of $2,000;
  • Appointment of Travis Collier as the assistant/JV academic team coach with a salary of $4,800;
  • Renewed Kelly Weatherford as the publications sponsor with a supplement of $2,300;
  • Renewed April Miller as the SCA sponsor with a supplement of $2,600;
  • Renewed Miller as the senior class sponsor with a supplement of $1,600;
  • Renewed Gregory Scott as the JROTC drill coordinator with a supplement of $2,000;
  • Renewed Devin Hall as the drama sponsor with a supplement of $1,700;
  • Renewed Tyler Brookhard as the chorus sponsor with a supplement of $2,000;
