The first day of school is just around the corner.

An open house at Halifax County Middle School and Halifax County High School is planned from 12:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

All elementary schools will have open house from 12:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

These open houses are a time to visit the schools and meet with a child’s teachers.

Supply lists may be found on the school division’s website under the Parent-Student tab, and they also are located at Walmart.

Also the red carpet will be rolled out for students and their families during the second annual 2019 Back-2-School Expo for all students and their families at Halifax County High School from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The morning will kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the entrance to the school at 9:45 a.m., and everyone will gather in the auditorium for the program. William Denson, founder of “A Father Forever: If You Want Better…Do Better,” will be the motivational speaker.

All schools will have a table set up in the lobby.

Bookbags will be given on a first come first serve basis for students present.

Be sure and stop by to see the HCHS Robotics Team and interact with the robot.

Entertainment will be provided by the HCHS band and HCHS cheerleaders.

Lunch will be served for all at 11:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Informational vendors also will be on hand in the lobby to assist with using parent portal, check blood pressure, connect with the Mentor Role Model Program services, watch demonstrations of healthy eating dishes, receive free food samples and lots more.

School bells will be ringing on Aug. 14, the first day school, and school officials are looking forward to seeing students and their families at these events and for a very successful 2019-2020 school year, according to Lisa M. Long, director of elementary education/professional development.
