Clover resident Mary Newcomb was displaced after a fire broke out in the kitchen of her home at 2144 Mill Road in Clover on at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

A 69-year-old Scottsburg woman died following a two-vehicle crash at about 7:45 p.m. Monday as she was on the way to her sister’s house that was on fire.

Family members confirmed Carrie A. Williams had just pulled out of her driveway on the way to Mary Newcomb’s residence on Mill Road in Clover when the crash occurred.

According to a preliminary report from Virginia State Police, Williams was entering the roadway on James D. Hagood Highway a half of a mile from Bethel Road in a 2018 Ford Fusion when her vehicle was struck in the side by a 2000 Nissan Frontier that was traveling west.

No further information was available as of press time Tuesday.

Virginia State Trooper L. V. Pambid is the investigating officer.
