Two were airlifted, including a child, and three others were transported to Halifax Regional Hospital early Sunday afternoon suffering from injuries sustained after a rear deck collapsed at a home located at 502 Cardinal Court in South Boston.

South Boston Fire Department Deputy Chief Dwight Spangler said Sunday all five victims were on the deck at the time it collapsed and fell approximately 12 feet to the ground.

Rescue and fire personnel along with South Boston Police were called to the accident scene at 12:49 p.m. and were on-site until 2:30 p.m., according to Spangler.

Two ambulances from Patient Transport and two from Halifax County Rescue Squad transported the victims from the scene, Spangler continued.

Fire department personnel remained at the scene under the direction of Halifax County Building Official Otis Vaughan to secure the accident scene, the deputy fire chief added.

The identities of the five victims and the cause of the collapse were not available at press time.
