Putting out the flames

Firefighters from South Boston Fire Department and Halifax Volunteer Fire Department work to extinguish the flames that engulfed this pick-up truck that caught fire around midnight Monday. The owner, Denise Polk, was not injured in the fire.

An Alton woman escaped injury when her pick-up truck caught fire late Monday night on Sinai Road, but her truck was declared a total loss.

According to South Boston Fire Chief Steve Phillips, when firefighters arrived on the scene minutes before midnight, “everything was burning… under the engine and in the cab” of Denise Polk’s truck.

A total of six South Boston firefighters fought the fire responding with one truck and the assistance of four Halifax Volunteer Fire Department firefighters and one of their trucks.

Phillips valued the truck at $2,000.
