A man’s body found inside of a house fire Thursday afternoon on Parsonage Road, Nathalie has been sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death, according to Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark.
The sheriff said Liberty Volunteer Fire Department received a call to a house fire around 2 p.m., and when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the two-story brick house fully engulfed in flames.
“As they were extinguishing the fire inside the home, they found a body in the bedroom,” said Clark.
The body was removed from the home, and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office was notified immediately.
In addition to Liberty Volunteer Fire Department firefighters, firefighters from North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, South Boston Fire Department, Triangle Volunteer Fire Department and Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department worked to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the sheriff said no foul play is suspected.
Authorities declined to identify the victim pending notification of relatives.
Capt. M. A. Womack is leading the ongoing investigation.
