Destination Downtown South Boston has announced the theme for the South Boston Christmas Parade, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The theme this year is “Christmas in Candy Land.”

Tamyra Vest, executive director of Destination Downtown South Boston, said she started getting phone calls from churches and non-profit organizations in April wanting to know the theme.

“We like to meet and decide on the theme in the spring, so entrants can have plenty of time to brainstorm and dream up their floats and entries.

Vest said, “With this theme, we envision lots of candy canes, gingerbread houses and sugar plum fairy trees. Make a Wreck-It Ralph Vanellope Sugar Rush Kart or some giant lollipops.”

She said there are also some great sample church float images on Pinterest with themes such as “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” and “Jesus - The Sweetest Name I Know.”
