Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Tuesday afternoon garage and shed fire that broke out at 4160 Mountain Road in Halifax destroying tractors, automobiles, welding equipment, hand tools and lawn mowers.
According to Halifax County Emergency Services Coordinator Chad Loftis, no one was home at the time of the fire, and a neighbor spotted the blaze and reported it to 911 emergency dispatch center around 2 p.m.
Halifax Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, and firefighters reported the shed was fully involved upon arrival. Called in to assist Halifax were firefighters from Liberty, Oak Level and South Boston fire departments.
Loftis said no one was hurt in the blaze that destroyed the single-story garage and shed with cement floors. The structure housed several tractors including a Ford diesel tractor, several lawn mowers, a 1966 Plymouth, flatbed UTV, old flatbed pickup truck, welding equipment, hand tools and numerous other items.
Firefighters remained on the scene about two hours bringing the fire under control, Loftis said, and Dominion Power was called to the scene to cut the electric line running to the shed.
As of Tuesday afternoon, an investigation was continuing to determine where the fire originated, Loftis said.
