Halifax County 2020 personal property taxes and the second half of the 2020 real estate taxes are due Dec. 7, according to treasurer Ruth Oakes.

Oakes said the office is still closed to the public due to COVID-19, however there are drop boxes located inside, accessible from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and outside the building for payments by check or money order.

Any elderly and disabled resident who receives tax relief must pay by Dec. 7 or they will lose that relief, Oakes said.

Any payment received after Dec. 7, will accrue penalty and interest. Under state law, a 10% penalty and a 10% per annum interest rate must be added to all unpaid taxes.

To pay, detach bill coupons and mail check or money order to the County Treasurer’s Office, P.O. Box 825 Halifax, VA 24558.

Residents wanting a receipt must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Taxpayers can use major credit/debit cards to make payments for a nominal fee online at WebFeePay.com by entering bill numbers, category of tax, and telephone number. Online payments should also be recorded as of Dec. 7.

It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure his bills are paid in a timely manner.

The 2021 dog tags are now on sale for $10 per tag. The cost for 20 kennel tags is $50. New tags are to be on the dogs by Feb. 1. A valid rabies vaccination will have to be provided for each dog in order to have the tags mailed back to the owner.
