A pile of logging trucks rest in Chatham Road after a logging truck and Buick had a collision at its intersection with Meadville Road on Tuesday morning.

The 79-year-old Halifax man involved in the Tuesday morning wreck involving a logging truck on Chatham Road at the intersection with Meadville Road faces a charge of failure to yield the right of way.

The driver, Chester A. Farmer Jr., was driving a 2011 Buick LaCrosse when he attempted to make a left-hand turn out of Meadville Road and was struck by a 1985 International tractor trailer driven by 57-year-old Jeff Newton of Virgilina, according to a report filed by Virginia State Trooper T. B. Jones.

Chester was transported to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital with minor injuries, and Newton was not injured.

Newton had been travelling towards Java carrying his second load for the day for Walker Services, LLC.

Jones estimated damages to both the Buick and the logging truck at $15,000 each.
